Ten Days, One Big Beaufort Party!

Ten Days, One Big Beaufort Party!

For 10 days every July, Beaufort trades "What's for dinner?" conversations for "What time does the parade start?" The 70th Annual Beaufort Water Festival returns July 17-26, filling Waterfront Park, downtown Beaufort, Port Royal, and surrounding venues with a schedule that's ambitious enough to make a day planner nervous.

This year's theme, "Sunny Days & Friendship Waves," feels fitting for a celebration that has spent seven decades bringing neighbors, visitors, boaters, musicians, and seafood lovers together. Since its beginnings in 1956, the festival has grown into one of South Carolina's signature summer traditions while keeping its unmistakable Lowcountry character firmly intact.

Ten Days, Plenty of Reasons to Stay

Some festivals ask visitors to pick one or two events. Beaufort's approach is closer to, "Clear your calendar."

The week kicks off with crowd favorites that span just about every interest. Country star Joe Nichols headlines Concert in the Park on July 18, while Motown Monday and Caribbean Night keep Waterfront Park humming with live music. Longtime traditions like the Lowcountry Supper, Rockin' the River, and the Commodore's Ball continue to anchor the celebration, drawing generations of festivalgoers who rarely need reminders to mark their calendars.

Families will find no shortage of activities built for younger visitors. The Children's Toad Fishing Tournament has become a rite of passage for many local kids, while Children's Day, the talent show, and the Grand Parade deliver the kind of summer memories that tend to outlast sunburns.

On the water, the Beaufort River remains the festival's centerpiece. The Blessing of the Fleet and Parade of Boats honors the region's maritime heritage, while the air show adds another reason to keep looking skyward. Visitors can also browse the Festival Arts & Crafts Market, cheer during the River Rally, laugh their way through the always-entertaining bed race, or join bocce and badminton tournaments before settling in for another evening of live entertainment.

What makes the Beaufort Water Festival stand out isn't simply the packed schedule. It's the way nearly every event reflects the community that hosts it. The river isn't a backdrop. It's part of the celebration. The traditions aren't staged for tourists. They're woven into local life.

After 70 years, the festival still feels like a gathering where everyone is invited. All you really need to bring is a comfortable pair of shoes, a little curiosity, and enough energy to keep saying, "Let's stay for one more event."
