Sip Into Fall!

Sip Into Fall!

South Carolina may still be negotiating with summer on September 22, but the coffee counters have moved on. Pumpkin is back, chai is getting creative, and at least one café has invited rosemary to the party.

Pumpkin Takes a Detour

At Corner Perk in Bluffton, fall takes a decidedly golden turn. The café’s Great Golden Pumpkin builds on its Golden Latte, a blend of turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper with milk. Pumpkin joins that spice cabinet instead of simply following the familiar espresso-and-pumpkin formula, and the drink can be ordered hot or iced, a useful distinction when Lowcountry afternoons have yet to receive the autumn memo.

Lodi Coffee is also making room for pumpkin in more than one format. Its currently published menu includes the traditional Pumpkin Spice Latte, but those who cannot quite commit to a steaming cup can find Pumpkin Spice Cream Cold Brew. There is even a Pumpkin Spice Matcha, giving the season a green-tea option alongside espresso and cold coffee.

Aiken’s Village Café heads toward chai. Its current seasonal lineup includes both a Pumpkin Spice Latte and Chai Pumpkin Latte, plus a Caramel Apple Chai. That matters in a state where fall beverages often have to work equally well over ice and under air conditioning. Autumn flavor does not require autumn temperatures.

Beyond the Basic PSL

In Columbia, Knowledge Perk Coffee stretches the idea considerably further. Pumpkin Pie and Maple Bourbon lattes cover the cozy end of the spectrum, while Cookie Butter Cold Brew offers a colder route into the season. Peach Cobbler Matcha keeps one foot in South Carolina’s lingering summer, and the Apple Chaider combines spiced apple cider, chai and oat milk. Even the Autumn Soda joins the menu with pomegranate, vanilla cream and cinnamon.

Greenville’s Other Lands may have the most intriguing argument for looking beyond pumpkin altogether. Its current specials include Apple of My Chai, Salted Honey Rosemary and the OL Spice Latte alongside a Pumpkin Spice Latte. The Salted Honey Rosemary can be made with espresso or matcha, a small choice that says quite a bit about how far the seasonal coffee menu has wandered from the old one-flavor-fits-all approach.

Across South Carolina, fall coffee now means turmeric, chai, maple, rosemary, matcha, cold brew and plenty of pumpkin. Sweater weather may be running late, but the state’s coffee menus are right on time.
