Lend a Hand, Lift a Heart!

Lend a Hand, Lift a Heart!

Looking for a way to make this Thanksgiving about more than turkey and leftovers? South Carolina has plenty of ways to roll up your sleeves and help out! From delivering meals to sorting donations, there’s a volunteer opportunity for almost every skill and schedule. Here’s a roundup of places you can give back this November.

Trident United Way

From November 19–21, Trident United Way hosts its 25th Annual Days of Caring, bringing together thousands of volunteers to support over 75 nonprofits and schools across the Tri-County area. Whether you're packing meals, painting schools, or organizing donations, your efforts will directly impact local communities.

Community Thanksgiving of Hilton Head Island

This annual event provides a free community family-style dinner on Thanksgiving Day at Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks. Volunteers assist with various roles, including serving meals and providing hospitality. While all positions for 2025 are currently filled, cancellations occur, so consider adding your name to the waitlist.

Miracle Hill Ministries

On Tuesday, November 25, join the 19th Annual Ellis & Bradley Turkey Fry benefiting Miracle Hill Ministries at the Spartanburg Rescue Mission. Volunteers help fry and smoke over 700 turkeys, preparing meals for thousands in shelters and families throughout the Upstate. It's hands-on, fast-paced, and you’ll see the difference you make with every plate served.

Want to give back year round? These South Carolina food banks are always looking for volunteers and donations:

  • Harvest Hope Food Bank – Help sort, pack, and distribute food across the Upstate, Midlands, and Pee Dee regions. Every box you prep directly feeds a family in need.
  • Lowcountry Food Bank – Volunteer at their Charleston, Myrtle Beach, or Early Branch centers. You’ll sort donations, pack boxes, and support programs that fight hunger year-round.
  • Golden Harvest Food Bank – Based in Augusta, GA with a location in Aiken, SC, this food bank serves the surrounding areas and offers volunteer shifts in packing, organizing, and distributing meals.
  • FoodShare South Carolina – Join their team to help pack and deliver fresh produce to communities across the state. It’s a hands-on way to fight hunger regularly.
  • The Salvation Army of the Midlands – Assist with sorting and distributing food, supporting families and seniors, or helping at their Family Thrift Store. Your time helps keep the community fed and cared for.

Giving back this Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether you’re frying turkeys, serving meals, or sorting boxes at a food bank, every hour you spend makes a real difference for families across South Carolina. The holidays are all about connection, and volunteering is one of the best ways to feel it firsthand!
