Lake City’s ArtFields Puts Talent in All the Right Places

Lake City’s ArtFields Puts Talent in All the Right Places

Sometimes you just want to see something that makes you stop in your tracks—and not because your phone told you to. Something handmade, bold, weird, moving. Something with a story behind it.

From April 25 through May 3, ArtFields 2025 brings that experience to downtown Lake City. For nine days, Main Street and the blocks around it transform into an immersive, walkable art showcase—complete with hundreds of works from Southern artists and more than $100,000 in prize money on the line.

What You’ll Find

You don’t need to know your Monets from your murals to enjoy this. Just show up ready to explore, because every block has something unexpected to see, and every venue’s got a story behind the art on the walls. Here’s how it works!

  • 400+ artworks are displayed throughout Lake City—in galleries, warehouses, boutiques, cafes, and even the library
  • $145,000 in prizes, including:
    • $50,000 Grand Prize
    • $25,000 Second Place
    • Two $12,500 People’s Choice Awards voted on by visitors
    • Five $2,000 Merit Awards
  • All venues are free to enter and open from 10AM–7PM daily (1–6PM Sundays)
  • Start at the Welcome Center (110 E. Main) for your map, field guide, and voting info

And while you're at it, make time for the ArtFields Jr. exhibit. It features artwork from South Carolina students in grades 1–12—and you’ll be surprised by just how much talent those kids are bringing to the table.

More Than a Festival

ArtFields might get most of the spotlight in spring, but the nonprofit behind it runs year-round—keeping creativity alive in Lake City long after the last vote’s been counted.

Throughout the year, the Lake City Creative Alliance offers hands-on art classes, rotating exhibitions, and programs that make art part of everyday life—not just something you see once a year. Got kids? Here are a few ways to plug them in:

  • Art Explorers: Monthly classes where students (grades 3K–6) get to paint, build, and try new techniques in a low-pressure, high-fun environment.
  • ArtMakers: A wild and wonderful afternoon of hands-on activities during the festival itself—perfect for curious kids who like getting messy.
  • Educational ArtWalks: Field trips and guided tours that give students a chance to connect with the work in front of them (and each other).

Adults aren’t left out either! Three local galleries (Jones-Carter, TRAX, and Crossroads) host exhibitions throughout the year, all free and open to the public. Whether you’re a working artist or just someone who likes to look, it’s worth stopping in.

A Good Reminder That Real Life Still Has a Spark

This kind of art experience feels different—because it is. No algorithms, no gatekeeping, no velvet ropes. Just bold work, Southern stories, and a town that shows up for both.
