High Water Fest, Low Stress

High Water Fest, Low Stress

Some festivals leave you sunburned, dehydrated, and wondering why you paid $18 for bad nachos. Not High Water Music Fest.

Set along the Cooper River at North Charleston’s Riverfront Park, April 26-27, this festival keeps it simple: great bands, local food, and just enough breeze to keep the sweat situation under control. The vibe is laid-back, the crowd’s not insane, and the lineup? You’ll be swaying to Lord Huron one minute and dancing to Arcade Fire the next.

The Need-to-Knows

The Lineup

Saturday brings Lord Huron (the dreamy indie band behind that song from a certain Netflix show), Mt. Joy (sunny, jammy vibes), and The Backseat Lovers (loud, buzzy, and going places fast).

Sunday turns up the nostalgia with Arcade Fire—Grammy-winning kings of early-2010s indie—and Counting Crows, delivering peak 90s road trip energy. You’ll also catch plenty of up-and-coming artists you’ll be pretending you “knew before they blew up.” Two alternating stages = no sprinting, no conflicts.

  • A clear bag or small crossbody/fanny pack.
  • Empty water bottle (free refill stations all over).
  • Sunscreen, earplugs, a towel or blanket.
  • No chairs, hammocks, or umbrellas allowed.
  • Come hungry with a credit card—it’s a cashless festival! Munchy vendors include Southern Roots BBQ, Island Noodles, King of Pops, and more!

Encore for Going Local

High Water was co-founded by Charleston’s own Shovels & Rope, and although the band recently ended their partnership with the festival, it still feels like something built by—and for—locals. Bonus: your ticket helps fund The Green Heart Project, a nonprofit that builds school gardens and urban farms around Charleston. They teach kids where food comes from, how to grow it, and why it matters.

Need a breather between sets? Sip a whiskey cocktail from the High West Train (21+), grab a frozen drink at the White Claw Shore Club (also 21+, wonder why?), or check out whatever’s happening at Montucky’s Yeehaw Inn (and you guessed it, 21+). Whether you’re there for the music or just along for the snacks and scenery, there’s no wrong way to fest.
