Greek for the Weekend!
Spartanburg’s got a little Mediterranean magic coming its way this September—and trust us, you don’t want to miss it! The Spartanburg Greek Festival is rolling back into town September 19–21, bringing all the flavors, sounds, and energy of Greece right to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, all without the need for a plane ticket!
Whether you’re a souvlaki lover for life or it’s all Greek to you, once you bite into a juicy gyro or catch the beat of the bouzouki, you’ll be hooked! From homemade baklava dripping with honey to traditional dances that get the whole crowd moving, this festival has something for everyone.
First things first: come hungry. This festival’s menu isn’t messing around. You’ll find souvlaki sizzling off the grill, spanakopita fresh from the oven, and gyro plates piled high with juicy, perfectly seasoned meat. And don’t forget the sweets —those syrup-soaked baklava pieces are basically edible gold, crafted just like Yiayia used to make. If you’ve got a sweet tooth or even just a curious one, these treats will have you hooked. Plus, when you chow down on those savory and syrupy treats, you’re also giving back—a portion of the proceeds supports the Mobile Meals program, helping feed those in need around Spartanburg.
Beyond food, the Spartanburg Greek Festival is a full-on celebration of culture. Live Greek music pumps through the festival grounds, courtesy of talented musicians playing traditional instruments like the bouzouki, filling the air with that unmistakable, foot-tapping rhythm. Keep your eyes peeled for traditional dancing too—it’s a lively spectacle where you might just find yourself joining in (or at least cheering from the sidelines!).
If you want to dive deeper into Greek culture, the church itself is open for tours. It’s a beautiful spot full of stunning iconography and a peaceful vibe that offers a glimpse into the spiritual heart of the community. While you’re there, browse the artisan vendors selling handcrafted goods that feel authentically Mediterranean—perfect for picking up a unique gift or just treating yourself.
Worried about parking or traffic? No stress. There’s shuttle service to whisk you back and forth so you can focus on what really matters: eating, dancing, and soaking up all that ouzo-spiked hospitality. Whether you’re Greek by blood or just Greek by appetite, this festival is your chance to soak in some big, bold Greek energy right here in South Carolina. Opa!
