Five Haunts. Zero Chill.

Five Haunts. Zero Chill.

Some people celebrate October with pumpkins and cider. Others willingly walk into dark woods where strangers with chainsaws are waiting. South Carolina has plenty of options for the second group.

Pick Your Nightmare

Near Greenville, Madworld Haunted Attractions in Piedmont turns a night of screaming into a fairly substantial outing. Its 2026 self-guided haunted house and trail is joined by an 18-hole Ghost Town Mini Golf course, axe throwing, carnival games, and a virtual-reality zombie shoot. So, theoretically, you can recover from one scare by immediately volunteering for another. Check out the full schedule and prepare to be scared!

In Greenville, Nightmare Dungeon takes the scares indoors, winding visitors through a 120-plus-year-old, two-story structure packed with more than 40 horror scenes, dark tunnels, maze-like rooms, special effects, and live actors. For 2026, the attraction has expanded with the Wicked Warehouse, adding more rooms and passages to the experience.

A short drive away in Easley, Sweet Dreams Scare House packs more than 20 environments into a quarter-mile indoor-outdoor path. It’s a substantial stretch of scares, with visitors moving from one environment to the next as they make their way through the attraction.

Things Get Darker in Blacksburg

Blacksburg gives thrill seekers two very different reasons to keep driving. SC Fear Farm includes six attractions with standard haunt admission: Abyss, Mineshaft Mayhem 2.0, The Coven, Confinement, Twisty’z, and Farm House. Each carries its own theme, which means surviving one attraction merely earns you the privilege of finding out what the next one has planned.

Then there’s Booger Jim’s Hollow, where the scares come with a distinctly local backstory. The attraction is built around the Booger Jim legend tied to the Cherokee Falls area and combines three experiences: the Clown House, Doll House, and Haunted Trail. Much of the experience is outdoors, and the trail’s uneven terrain makes sensible shoes a particularly unglamorous but useful part of the Halloween wardrobe.

That leaves South Carolina thrill seekers with a dilemma: farmhouse or fear farm, indoor maze or outdoor trail, one haunt or six? Pick your poison, bring somebody who scares easily, and try not to be the first person in the group to run!
