Fire Safety is Heating Up!

Fire Safety is Heating Up!

Stopping a fire from spreading can come down to a curtain. In North Charleston, Stöbich is betting $2.53 million on making more of those highly engineered barriers right here in Dorchester County.

Stöbich Fire Protection Systems is expanding its operation at 5301 Indigo Fields Boulevard in North Charleston, adding 33 jobs and increasing its local manufacturing capabilities. The German company makes systems designed to contain fire and smoke, including fire curtains, closures, gates, and controls, with the expanded operations expected to be online in September 2026.

When Fire Meets Fabric

A fire curtain sounds surprisingly ordinary for something with such a serious job. These specialized barriers are designed to deploy when needed, helping prevent fire and smoke from spreading through openings within a building.

They’re part of a broader lineup from Stöbich that includes smoke curtains, conveyor system closures, fire protection gates, and the controls that operate its systems. The company has been working in fire protection since 1980 and now has a presence in more than 50 countries.

North Charleston is becoming a bigger piece of that global operation. According to the South Carolina Department of Commerce, the expansion will increase Stöbich’s manufacturing capabilities at its existing Dorchester County facility.

More Made in Dorchester County

Company leadership says the U.S. market is an important part of Stöbich’s long-term growth strategy, with South Carolina serving as a base for strengthening its American operations.

With 33 new jobs on the way and a larger U.S. operation taking shape, Stöbich is giving Dorchester County another reason to keep an eye on its manufacturing scene. The products may be all about stopping trouble in its tracks, but this expansion has the company headed in exactly the opposite direction: forward.
