Father’s Day, Full Throttle!
Some dads want a gift card. Others want a golf simulator, a plate of smoked brisket, and a row of classic cars. Fortunately, this year’s Father's Day weekend has all of the above!
Father's Day falls on June 21, and communities across the state are filling the weekend with events that feel tailor-made for dads who like to stay in motion. Whether that means tracking down festival food, admiring restored muscle cars, testing a golf swing, or settling into a cigar lounge for an afternoon, the calendar offers plenty of ways to celebrate without spending the day parked in a recliner. Better yet, many of these events have become annual traditions that draw entire families along for the ride.
The Mighty Moo Returns
Cowpens gets an early start with the 49th Annual Mighty Moo Festival, running June 18-20 at Veterans Park. For nearly five decades, the festival has served as one of the area's signature summer gatherings, bringing together community events, entertainment, local vendors, and enough fair food to make decision-making surprisingly difficult. The Mighty Moo has become the kind of tradition families mark on the calendar without needing a reminder. Some come for the activities. Others come for the food. Most end up staying longer than planned.
Chrome, Cigars, and Competition
Over in Greenville, Larkin's Sawmill is turning Father's Day into an afternoon packed with activity. Their June 21 event combines lunch specials, big-screen sports, yard games, complimentary tastings of Contrary Cow's Dark Chocolate Whiskey, the Cigar Steams Mobile Cigar Lounge, and Rollin Birdies Golf's mobile golf simulator. It's the sort of lineup that encourages friendly competition and adds a little extra entertainment between bites of brisket.
Meanwhile, the Cane Bay Family YMCA's 3rd Annual Father's Day Car Show rolls into the YMCA’s pavilion area from 3 to 8 p.m. on June 21. Classic cars, custom trucks, motorcycles, food vendors, and family activities will fill the space, creating a gathering where polished chrome gets almost as much attention as the dads themselves.
Taken together, the weekend offers a little of everything: festival traditions, smoky barbecue, horsepower, golf swings, and good company!
