Anchors Away, Party On!

Anchors Away, Party On!

Summer plans are better with a little time on the water, and Floatchella Lake Murray is giving Lake Murray one more reason to launch the boat. Returning to Fat Frogs Marina in Chapin on July 18, the floating festival mixes live music, food, vendors, and more into one unforgettable Saturday.

Running from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1701 Dreher Island Road, the event welcomes boats, jet skis, kayaks, and lake lovers for a celebration organizers describe as "where waves meet the beat." It is less about floating aimlessly and more about turning a day on the lake into a full-fledged summer festival.

Running from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1701 Dreher Island Road, the event brings boats, music, food, vendors, and lake lovers together for one of the region’s more creative summer gatherings. Organizers call it the place “where waves meet the beat,” which is a pretty tidy way of saying this is not your average afternoon of drifting around hoping someone remembered sunscreen.

A Festival With Its Feet in the Water

Floatchella is built around the kind of lake culture that already shapes summer in Chapin, Lexington, Irmo, and the broader Midlands. People can arrive by boat, jet ski, kayak, or other watercraft, while those coming by land are encouraged to carpool or rideshare because parking is limited. That detail alone tells you plenty: this event belongs as much to the water as it does to the marina.

Fat Frogs Marina, located on the road to Dreher Island State Park, gives the event a natural home base. The marina has become a familiar Lake Murray gathering spot, offering access to the water, food and drink options nearby, and the kind of relaxed setting that makes people stay a little longer than planned.

The day’s draw is bigger than the music. Floatchella brings in local vendors and food trucks, creating foot traffic and visibility for small businesses that depend on exactly this sort of seasonal energy. Summer events like this do more than fill a Saturday. They help keep local restaurants, makers, service providers, and lake-centered businesses connected to residents and visitors alike.

Lake Life With a Purpose

There is also a giving-back piece tucked inside the fun. Floatchella supports two local nonprofits, The Hive and Lifehouse for Life, giving the day a community purpose beyond the playlist and dock slips. That matters in a region where lake life is not just recreation, but part of how people gather, fundraise, and look after one another.

The result is part boat party, part small-business showcase, part Midlands summer ritual. Bring the crew, plan your ride, respect the water, and maybe pack more towels than you think you need. Lake Murray has hosted plenty of good Saturdays, but Floatchella is aiming for the kind people talk about well after the coolers are empty.
