Growing up in rural areas often presents a stark contrast to life in urban and suburban settings. Many essential services, which urban residents take for granted, are frequently absent or significantly lacking in rural communities. This was a reality we experienced firsthand. Witnessing the struggles of my fellow residents to access basic services, such as garbage collection, ignited a passion in me to advocate for change.

For years, residents in areas like Awendaw, McClellanville,  Huger, and many other areas  faced the burdensome task of transporting their waste to distant dumps, often relying on personal vehicles or the goodwill of neighbors for assistance. This not only placed an undue strain on individuals but also contributed to environmental concerns and community health issues.

However, over the past five years, our attention shifted to the rapid development taking place in these rural areas. With the prediction of a growing population becoming a reality, it became increasingly clear that our services must adapt to meet the changing needs of a diverse and expanding community.

Recognizing this need and the potential for positive change, we took the initiative to establish AwenDaw Sanitation Services in May 2022. Our mission expands beyond just waste management; it embodies a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our community. By providing reliable garbage collection services, we aim to empower residents, foster community pride, and protect our environment.

It is not just about garbage collection it’s about building a cleaner, safer, and more cohesive community for current and future generations.
